The Community Liver Health Checks (CLHC) pilot programme is currently running across the West Midlands, aimed at identifying people at higher risk of liver disease and liver cancer.

This programme supports the NHS Long Term Plan ambition to diagnose cancers earlier and focuses on prevention, early detection, and reducing health inequalities.

As part of this work, they use a mobile liver health bus equipped to provide FibroScan assessments and related checks for eligible adults in the community. These checks are non-invasive and help identify early liver damage so that people can be referred for appropriate follow-up and surveillance where needed.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Adults aged 18-75 with alcohol consumption greater than 14 units per week
  • Adults aged 18-75 with a history of Hepatitis B or C
  • Adults aged over 50 with MASLD (fatty liver disease)
  • Adults aged over 50 with Type II diabetes and a BMI over 30 (or over 27, depending on ethnicity)

Just turn up, no appointment needed! Please see and share attached ‘Lyng health centre’ and ‘Liver Health Checks Lyng’.

The liver bus will also be visiting the below towns:

  • 9 March – Oldbury, Civic Square
  • 9 April – Cradley Heath, Salvation Army
  • 14 April – Wednesbury Leisure Centre
